What are the steps involved from wet clay to finished piece?
- It starts with wet clay, shaped by hand or on the wheel, full of flexibility and potential.
- As it slowly dries to the leather-hard stage, it becomes firm but still workable—perfect for trimming, carving, and attaching handles or other details.
- Left to dry completely, it reaches the “bone-dry” stage, where it’s fragile and ready for its first kiln journey.
- The bisque firing hardens the clay into a porous yet durable form, preparing it to absorb glaze.
- Finally, the piece is coated in glaze and fired once more in a glaze firing, where heat transforms the surface into a smooth, glassy finish, completing its evolution from raw clay to finished pottery.

What type of clay do you use at the studio?
We use Laguna clay bodies. Most of our classes will be using the #45 Buff Stoneware. The #50 Stoneware with Manganese and the B-Mix are ones we offer to members by the bag. Terracotta will also be available for specific programs. We use reclaimed #45 and #50 for our one Studio Mix Body to create other great qualities.
What type of glazes do you use at the studio?
We have a selection of Clayscape Potery Inc. cone 5/6 Glazes. We also have test tiles for each glaze to show how each interacts with every other glaze.
Can you mail me my finished piece?
Yes! Since it will take 4-6 weeks for your piece to go through the drying and kiln firing steps, we are able to mail people their completed work.
Is the studio wheelchair accessible?
Yes! Our studio and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
